Summer News from the GWGCSA

Can you believe half of 2022 is already in the rearview mirror?

The GWGCSA Board would like to “Congratulate and Thank” our former External VP, David Walter, on his new job @ Silverado Resort in Napa Valley, CA, home of the 2022 PGA Fortinet Championship.  I speak for our entire membership when I say we appreciated you representing us on the VGCSA Board and you will have “big shoes” to fill.  You will always have friends on the opposite coastline and we look forward to any future boondoggles in wine country!

We would also like to “Congratulate” our friends Pete Wendt, CGCS and Andrew Green on a fabulous presentation of Congressional CC for the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.  Not everyone of us has experienced putting on an event like the KPMG but I speak for the entire Association when I say it energizes us to see the conditions you displayed and gives us a sense of personal pride in regards to the profession we share.  Thank You!

The GWGCSA would like to recognize our May Tournament host, Nathaniel Guldseth GCS and Kevin McCusker AGCS, @ International Country Club.  The golf course was in incredible shape and we appreciate the hard work of the Maintenance and Pro Shop staff in treating us to a day of fantastic conditions, service, and especially weather.  The Virlina Cup Qualifier was won by Scott Cornwell from Fauquier Springs CC!

In June the GWGCSA made the trek down to Luray for our 1st Annual Greater Valley Cup, as we attempted to put the “beatdown” on the SVTA at Caverns Country Club.  What a place Eric Ferrell and his staff has turned that place into?  A TRUE hidden gem in the Valley.  The weather gods looked out for us all that day but the golf gods chose the SVTA to get behind as they prevailed 24-18 and we were sent home packing without the Cup.  We had a “awesome” time with our neighboring Association and there seemed to be an overwhelming consensus on our ride that next year the results will be very different so don’t let that Cup get to comfortable in your possession.  A Huge Thank You goes out to Ferris Crilly and ProArbor for sponsoring the cold beverages that fueled our…well you know what it fueled.  Ferris has been a big supporter of the GW and the Board appreciates his involvement within our Industry.

With that being said, The Board would like to take this moment to Thank all the 2022 Sponsors of the GWGCSA.  We hope each of you will make it to one of the remaining 2022 events so we can recognize how much your sponsorship means to our membership.  The Industry support you provide is invaluable to each events success,  We appreciate all you do!

In closing we have (3) 2022 GWGCSA events left on the schedule.  On July 27th we will be going back to our “ole” stomping grounds for the Maintenance Open @ Forest Greens GC.  Our host, Jeff VanFleet GCS, always promises to put on a true test of agronomic questions for those that attend that look like they just walked out of a Pro Shop.  LOL!  Jeff always has a great conditioned place for our event.  We encourage everybody to go through our app to get your team signed up for the event even if you are paying by check or cash day of event as early as possible.  Beverages, dinner, closest to pins are all included in event costs.  There will be an optional Skins Game that will be CASH so bring some with you.  Sunscreen and Insect Repellent (Attack Flies) usage are at the discretion of the attendee!

We look forward to seeing everyone at an upcoming event. Stay safe and have a great summer!
